Harry Potter? Of all movies.

Best Blogger Tips

*Disclaimer: My opinions are meant to start discussions.  Not end them.*

Honestly, back in 2007 when the first Harry Potter ( Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix ) came out, I thought that the movie would mount to nothing, be a fad, a one hit wonder.  Boy was I wrong.  I'm not a huge fan of the series, but I'm also not a huge hater.  With this movie, I drink neither the hatorade nor the kool aid.  Looking over the statistics from this past weekends opening of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows 2".  This movie, I can safely say, beat the heck out of "Horrible Bosses".  Yes, that's the movie I went and saw with my girlfriend.  I enjoy comedies more, but don't get me wrong I say "Lets go see Harry Potter," and she says "No."  Which obviously means I'd do anything for her.  Lets look over what happened this past weekend though, sha'll we?

Before I give out any stats, I'd just like to point out that these gigantic numbers make me sick. I wouldn't know what to do with so much money.  Not that the actors get it all, but just imagine the percentage that they receive, and this is just the first weekend!  I'm sure it'll be playing down in Disney for months.  These numbers are NEW records for the U.S. and Canada combined:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Opening Weekend - $169,189,427
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Opening Weekend - IMAX - $15,500,000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Single Day -  $91,071,119
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Widest 3D Launch - 3,100 Locations
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Highest Gross in Advanced Ticket Sales - $32,000,000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Biggest Midnight Release - $43,500,000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Biggest IMAX Midnight Release - $2,000,000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Highest 3-Day Gross - $169,189.427
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Fastest to $100 Million - 2 days
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Fastest to $150 Million - 3 days
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are new international AND global box-office records:

• Opening Weekend - $481,489,427
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Opening Weekend Foreign - $312,300,000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Opening Weekend United Kingdom - $36,000,000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Opening Weekend Australia - $26,700,000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Highest Grossing Worldwide IMAX Release - $23,500,000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally, I will never look at them numbers again because of high grossly high they are.  I could never imagine being one those actors, and watching their stock rise, or watching that money rolling in.  What to do with all that money and fame, I wouldn't know.  I'm excited to see what they do though.  Hopefully they retire, and follow that little green line that you get when you join Fidelity Investments.  I want a green line.  In all seriousness though, no one deserves that much money.  Wether its going to the people that made the movie (actors, actress, directors, screen writers) or the company.  No one, but the average joe needs that kind of money.  Give me a cool 500,000 and leave it up to me to multiply it.  I'm good with that.  Would you be?  Congratulations though Harry Potter.  Maybe one day I'll watch you, and see what all the hype was about.

Hope you enjoy my rants!
